We had our aging stove cleaned on Tuesday in advance of Turkey day. It worked fine last night....but this evening the gas is no longer flowing into the oven. Gas Bar-B-Que to the rescue! Thank goodness there was enough propane in the tank. We've never roasted a whole bird on the bar-bi before but it went well with the improvised metal roasting pan out of aluminum foil. Of course it meant xlorp had to sit outside in the dark tending the grill while I waved to him from the kitchen from time to time.

The cats were not amused. I am, however, hoping that we might get a new stove out of all of this. The one that came with the house was very cheap and doesn't heat very well.

There isn't much to report: the song itself is pretty simple, as I thought. The main problem that I'm having is that my headphones appear to be giving me jaw problems. I've got some heavy-duty Sennheisers that cancel out noise really well - but in the last few weeks, my jaw has been aching and popping every time I yawn or take a semi-big bite of food.

I don't honestly know if the two are related. The headphones do hurt my ear and jaw area if I wear them for extended periods of time, and I can't seem to adjust them to a place where they don't. I've always just kind of dealt with it, but I've been wearing them a lot more in the last few weeks, since one of my last steps to learning a song is to play along to the music. I'd do it without headphones, but in the particular case of Violet Hill, the drums are kind of muted and hard to make out if you're playing your own kit on top. (This is really the case for everything except, like, AC/DC.) You really need noise-canceling abilities of some kind.

Has anyone else experienced headphone-related jaw problems? I couldn't find anything online. I don't want to screw up that part of my drum practice, but I also would like to be able to EAT, yaknow? Eating is nice.

Perhaps I shall write one myself, after I open the can of worms that is significance of name order in pairing listings in certain fandoms (and certain segments of certain other fandoms, which is gonna be the fun part) and if it's possible to do synonyms with a disambiguation option.

I've been running around like a crazy thing trying to get things done today. Mom's doing better but now both Lee and Amber have this same nasty respiratory crud. Thankfully, Lee went to the doctor this morning. Doctor Klein confirmed my diagnosis of a bacterial respiratory infection and even prescribed the same antibiotic, Levaquin, that I thought he would. Could have saved us the $25 for the doctor's visit even if we couldn't avoid the $44.00 for his meds. ;)

All kidding aside, Lee's cough sounds pretty nasty, sure hope the meds start helping him feel better soon. Now if I can just keep from getting it. Times like this it actually comes in handy to have an out of control immune system. My body tends to burn out any bug I pick up fairly quickly. Now if it just holds true this time.

I still haven't had the time to make a new listing of stuff to sell for here yet, I need time to take some pictures. I do have a bunch of stuff listed on Ebay, though, both some more of Lee's mom's jewelry and some comics related stuff. Here they are if you'd like to take a look:

Hi, people wot have seen Shelter. Come talk to me about it.

On the one hand, it was reeeeeally poorly directed. As in, what is this shot? Oh my god, what is this blocking? And Brad Rowe bugged me a bit, though Trevor Wright was effective. Pretty predictable plot.

On the other hand, dudes, Zach totes had a crush on Shaun for years. YEARS. Like, it's not stated explicitly, but he mentions to his sister that he'd been surfing with Shaun since age 8. Plenty of time for bb!Zack to get starry-eyed over the confident Older Brother, and the way Zack sort of hesitated when he saw Shaun for the first time in what, 5 years? And then later when they're arguing he tosses out, "I'm sick of being your childhood wet dream," which makes absolutely no sense unless you turn it around and put it back on him. Yeah. Long-repressed crush, thar.

I also really appreciated the scene between Zack and his sister where the truth comes out and it's this complex tangle of prejudice, family responsibility, financial pressues, sibling rivalry, and personal insecurities. Up until then Jeanne is pretty unsympathetic, but that scene really made you believe that she's a fuckup trying to do her best. What is so easy and effortless for Shaun and Gabe is a slow climb for Zack and Jeanne, and they struggle under it in different ways.

my cousins' wife was taken off life support and passed away. the cancer had spread into her lungs and she was in a medically induced coma for the last week. her oldest (9) told her father that her younger brother (5) was "too young" to have lost their mother.  neither child was able to say goodbye  - I am not certain if this is a good thing or not.

she was 45 years old.

For tonight's bout of stress baking, I made blueberry boy bait (as recommended by [info - livejournal.com] devildoll), which came out well, I think (I am taking half to work and half to the parents), but I also think it needs more blueberries. Clearly I need to double the amount next time. And possibly make it in cupcake tins or my mini-loaf pan. Hmm...

Maybe one day I'll be like a real food blogger and remember to take pictures of stuff before I slice into it and wrap it up. Today was not that day.

On my ride home tonight (I was at work late again), I listened to Adam Raised a Cain a few times and vidded it in my head. I would be the most literal vidder ever. Anyway. I know I say this all the time, but where is the Sam Winchester vid to this song? WHERE IS IT? I think this season has provided more awesome footage for someone to do this.

Currently, there are no Banjun Theatre stories in the archive. Like Anyband FPF, my instinct is that it should be a distinct subfandom that's searchable on its own or as part of a DBSK search, but the ability to create subfandoms and metafandoms isn't yet in place, so if you've got a Banjun story, just put it in as a new fandom.

Now I get to decide if I want to wrangle more synonyms for CSJH or concentrate on one fandom at a time and wrangle all the synonyms for the DBSK pairings that are already in the system (oh, sweet mother of Mike). Also, I'm not quite sure what to do about the fact that Minho is both a DBSK pairing and a member of SHINee. I don't think I can wrangle it into one fandom when another's guaranteed to want to use it, even if they're in different Tag wuzzle fields.

Oh, yeah, and Chaotic Butterfly's now a fandom, and I moved The Good King to movies and threw the synonym "Good King Wenceslas" at it. Somebody let me know if there's fic for the carol and I need to change that.

ETA: Went ahead and synonymized TSZX, TJCK, Tenjo Chiki, Tenjochiki, and Tian Shang Zhi Xi (which I'm gonna have to mess with if they change the code to allow non-English accented characters).

ETA 2: THIS IS ANOTHER REASON TO HATE THAT STUPID "THE GRACE" BS. *snarls and synonymizes it, though she wants it on record that SHE OBJECTS*

wow! Okay, so for anyone who doesn't know yet: Adam was supposed to perform on Good Morning America tomorrow. GMA had freaking Hot Topic stores giving out promotional tickets yesterday. Last night, coming out of his Letterman taping (it's going to be shown on Wednesday night btw), Adam told people there he was doing three songs, was all excited for it.

This morning, GMA cancelled. And not only did they cancel, they apparently cancelled without telling HIM, because after the email notices -- TO RANDOM PEOPLE WHO HAD SIGNED UP FOR THEIR MAILING LIST -- went out, Tommy (the cute bassist who is the other boy in the kissing pics) tweeted that it had NOT been cancelled in response to panicked questions. A few minutes later it was confirmed that yes, it was cancelled.

I just -- there is ZERO QUESTION that ABC knew what Adam was going to do on the AMAs for anyone who saw the broadcast and the breathless, every-commercial-break "omg you will not BELIEVE Adam Lambert's performance!" and "the one everyone will be talking about!" teasers, not to mention the pre-performance videos THEY FILMED AND PUT ONLINE where he talked about sexiness and boys on leashes and rehearsed the performance. They got their highest ratings in 7 years.

But apparently ABC is now "worried" about having him on the show "so early in the day." (Although he's been on GMA before, at the same time while on the Idols Live tour he was jacking off mic stands and doing stripper moves on stage every night. AMAZINGLY, he did not put on a raunchy performance at 7 in the morning.)

Of course, the boy-on-boy crotch action got edited out for the AMAs west coast feed, even though all the sex moves with girls were apparently okay, so maybe they thought better of it afterwards? Maybe he made things a little too gay after he surprise-kissed Tommy? akdsfja;djf;asdfjad /incoherent wrath

TO CALL ABC TO COMPLAIN: 1-818-460-7477, hit 1 on first menu, 2 on second menu, 1 on third menu, then 466 for the GMA mailbox and leave a message.

OKAY, LESS RAGE, MORE HAPPY:

Adam is going to be on the CBS Early Show tomorrow morning instead.

He is going to be performing indoors in the studio, and doing a meet and greet AFTERWARDS in the plaza at 5th avenue and 59th street, and fans are invited to gather.

NYC PEEPS, the Early Show concerts are held outside on the plaza at 5th avenue and 59th street. I have no clue how they will handle the crowd, but there's no physical limit to the space, so presumably it's just first come first serve until they fill up and start sending people away.

But I am going to have to show up just at the last second because I can't be out in the cold that long right now, so I have no idea if I will be able to stay or see a thing. ;____; *cries and hates ABC some more*

So it's that time of year for wish lists and such. I'm trying to save them as I go, but feel free to link me to your wishlist as I would like to do something small for any of you if I can. As usual, because I'm poor, I tend to keep my list fannish/creative because that's all I really can return. And it's the small things that always make me happy anyway.
